This piece began with the sorrow of my father's illness and the journey my family made with him toward death. That same year it seemed that the world was groaning with upheaval and tragedy. There are several images of the earthquake in Haiti. The economy was limping along. It seemed that everyone I knew was struggling with finances or health issues.
